Theology at Oxford


Dr Eric Eve is Research Fellow and Tutor in Theology at Harris Manchester College, Oxford. His main field of study is the New Testament. He has contributed the section on 1 Peter to the Oxford Bible Commentary (published in September 2001) and an article 'Challenging Q' to the Expository Times (Vol 113, September 2002) as well an essay to Questioning Q (ed. Mark Goodacre and Nicholas Perrin; London: SPCK, 2004) . His doctoral thesis on the Jewish Context of Jesus' Miracles, and an expanded version of it was recently published by Sheffield Academic Press (now part of Continuum). His article "All Hope Abandon - Biblical Text and Interactive Fiction", published in a recent edition of Digital Humanities Quartely, combines his interests in New Testament Studies and Interactive Fiction.


Eric Eve was educated at Tonbridge School, Kent. He read Engineering Science at Brasenose College, Oxford, and graduated in 1975. From there he want on to work for EMI Electronics in the field of Radar Antennae. In 1977 he joined the family firm, Carter-Parratt Ltd, of which he became a director in 1984. Following a re-organization of the firm and several takeovers, he decided to return to academia and, having gained an interest in theology through becoming a Reader in the Church of England, took up a place at Manchester College, Oxford to read theology in October 1992. He graduated in 1995 but remained at Harris Manchester for the Master of Studies and Doctor of Philosophy. He completed his doctorate in 1999 and was appointed a Junior Research Fellow at Harris Manchester in October of that year. He is currently Senior Research Fellow and Tutor in Theology at Harris Manchester College.
